PFPID-Nepal is active in promoting rights initiatives and advocacy in coordination with organizations at the national and local levels, informing the parents of intellectual disabilities about their rights, and enhancing their capabilities.
The objective of the research is
- To identify the status of primary health care of persons with intellectual disabilities in context of Nepal.
- To analyze the average life expectancy of persons with intellectual disabilities in Nepal.
- To identify the relation of primary health care and its impact on life expectancy.
PFPID-Nepal seeks research advisor to conduct research on Primary health care as a measure factor in life expectancy of persons with intellectual disabilities. A higher incidence of communicable and non-communicable diseases is found in persons with disabilities compared to persons without disabilities. This includes conditions such as tuberculosis, diabetes, stroke, sexually transmitted infections or cardiovascular problems. A major factor for the increased morbidity among persons with disabilities is their limited or delayed access to health services”. Whereas, in context of Nepal there are no any concrete evidences that explains the growing numbers of elder persons with intellectual disabilities. People with intellectual disabilities experience health inequalities. Death occurs at a younger age and the prevalence of long-term morbidities is higher than in the general population. Despite this, their primary healthcare access rates are lower than the general population, their health needs are often unmet, and their views and experiences are frequently overlooked in research, policy, and practice. Therefore, the research on this issue is very important and can act as base for further strategical pans and implementation in sector of health in Nepal while working with persons with intellectual disabilities. Moreover, this can also be helpful in identifying the loopholes in the primary health care of persons with IDs.
