1. Introduction
The Parent Federation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PFPID) Nepal invites qualified and experienced individual consultants or consulting firms to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the design and facilitation of a capacity-building training for parents of persons with intellectual disabilities. The training will focus on Parent Self-Help Group (PSHG) formation and mobilization, caregiver well-being, emotional management, self-care, and stress-relief strategies.
The training will bring together parent representatives from twelve districts and will adopt participatory, inclusive, and practical learning approaches.
2. Background
Parents and caregivers of persons with intellectual disabilities frequently encounter emotional stress, social stigma, caregiving fatigue, and limited access to psychosocial support. Strengthening caregivers’ emotional well-being and resilience is essential to improving family support systems, reducing burnout, and promoting inclusive community participation.
PFPID Nepal seeks to strengthen the capacity of parents by enhancing their understanding of PSHG formation, group mobilization, emotional well-being, self-care practices, and effective stress-management techniques.
3. Purpose of the Assignment
The consultant will design and facilitate a training program that enables participants to:
- Understand the concept, purpose, and benefits of Parent Self-Help Groups (PSHGs).
- Develop skills for establishing and mobilizing PSHGs at the community level.
- Improve understanding of emotions and emotional intelligence.
- Identify sources of stress and effective coping mechanisms.
- Practice self-care techniques to promote mental well-being.
- Strengthen resilience and positive mental health among caregivers.
4. Scope of Work
The consultant shall undertake the following responsibilities:
A. Training Design and Preparation
- Develop a comprehensive training curriculum and session plans tailored to the needs of parents and caregivers of persons with intellectual disabilities.
- Prepare training materials, presentations, handouts, and reference resources.
- Design pre-training and post-training assessment tools to measure participants’ learning and knowledge gain.
- Develop a comprehensive and standardized training manual that serves as a long-term asset for PFPID, enabling consistent delivery and easy replication of the training in the future.
B. Training Facilitation
- Facilitate the training using participatory, inclusive, and adult-learning methodologies.
- Apply trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches throughout the training process.
- Ensure that training sessions are practical, interactive, and accessible to all participants.
C. Reporting
- Analyze findings from pre-training and post-training assessments.
- Prepare and submit a concise training report summarizing key sessions, participant engagement, learning outcomes, challenges encountered, and recommendations for future interventions.
5. Expected Deliverables
The consultant shall deliver:
- Training curriculum and detailed session plans.
- Training presentations, handouts, and supporting materials.
- Pre-training and post-training assessment tools.
- Assessment results and analysis report.
- Final training report with key learnings, outcomes, and recommendations.
6. Duration and Location
- Assignment Duration: 2 training days plus 2 days for preparation and reporting.
- Training Dates: To be finalized in coordination with PFPID Nepal.
- Training Venue: Centralized location to be determined by PFPID Nepal.
- Participants: Parents and caregivers representing twelve districts.
7. Required Qualifications and Experience
The consultant should possess:
- A Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Mental Health, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
- At least 3–5 years of demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating trainings on psychosocial well-being, emotional intelligence, caregiver support, self-care, or related topics.
- Strong knowledge of emotional well-being, stress management, resilience building, and participatory facilitation approaches.
- Prior experience working with persons with disabilities, caregivers, parent groups, or community-based organizations is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deliver culturally appropriate and inclusive training interventions.
8. Reporting and Coordination
The consultant will report directly to the Project Officer of PFPID Nepal and will work closely with the project team throughout the planning, implementation, and reporting phases of the assignment.
9. Payment Modality
- Payment shall be made upon satisfactory completion and approval of all agreed deliverables, including the final training report.
- PFPID Nepal will cover approved logistical costs associated with the training, including venue arrangements, participant support costs, and training materials.
10. Required Documents for Submission
Interested consultants or consulting firms are requested to submit:
- Cover letter expressing interest in the assignment.
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) or organizational profile.
- Technical proposal outlining the training methodology, facilitation approach, work plan, and draft content outline.
- Evidence of similar assignments completed in the past (if available).
- Financial proposal indicating the consultancy fee and associated costs.
