The 12th annual general meeting of the Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disabilities Nepal has been held in Butwal.

Butwal sub-metropolitan chief Khelraj Pandey was the chief guest of the event, Tanahun Ghiring rural municipality vice president Radhadevi Adhikari, National Handicapped Federation outgoing president Mitralal Sharma, National Handicapped Federation Nepal Lumbini president Humnath Adhikari, IL Women Rupandehi Rajita Regmi, National Physically Handicapped Federation Lumbini president Netra Prasad Sapkota. , Lumbini Province President of Nepal Eye-Rain Association Krishna Bahadur G.C., Shila Ghimire from Nepal Eye-Rain Association Kathmandu, Santosh G.C. from Intellectual Disability Association. Other guests were present.

Addressing the inaugural session, the chief guest Pandey said that various plans will soon be made for skill development and professional training for people with intellectual disabilities. He said that he had the opportunity to go to Japan to observe the business skills of people with intellectual disabilities. Although it is a challenge to develop their practical and professional skills, the local government will do its best to address them.

Similarly, Mitralal Sharma, outgoing president of the National Disabled Federation of Nepal, said that the parents of people with intellectual disabilities are advocating with the state and stakeholders on their issues and awakening the parents for their rights. He said that not only in urban areas, but also in remote rural areas, the federation is raising awareness by increasing its reach and raising awareness about intellectual disability issues through advocacy activities such as training for parents on care, evidence-based advocacy with the local government. He said that the Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disabilities is not only leading the issues of people with intellectual disabilities but also standing as a strong pillar in the disability movement.

Radhadevi Adhikari, vice president of Tanahun Ghiring Rural Municipality, said that even within the category of disabled people, people with intellectual disabilities are feeling the most discrimination and exclusion, so they are constantly trying to establish their question as the main question. He said that since the local government is struggling to address the issues of people with intellectual disabilities, more lobbying is needed to explain the issues to the local government and representatives.

Similarly, Netra Prasad Sapkota, president of National Physically Handicapped Federation Nepal Lumbini Province, said that the results of the tireless efforts made by the Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disabilities Nepal to reach the 12th year of establishment are beginning to appear. He said that he also gave inspiration to people with disabilities.

Meanwhile, in the opening session, Anisha Bhattarai, a student of Suthmanamashti Bal Vidya Mandir Rupandehi, performed a dance to the song Shiraima Shirbandi Bol.

In the opening session, the general secretary of the federation, Ram Narayan Shrestha, read the progress report which included the overall progress of the federation after the 11th general meeting till the 12th general meeting.

Meanwhile, the financial progress and accounting report presented by Gokarna Prasad Acharya, the treasurer of the federation, was unanimously approved in the closed session of the general meeting of the federation held today.

The annual general meeting was held under the chairmanship of the president of the federation, Raju Basnet, where the vice president of the federation, Sheila Thapa, gave a welcome speech.

According to the general secretary of the Federation, Ram Narayan Shrestha, 150 people with intellectual disabilities and their parents were present from all over the country to participate in the 12th annual general meeting.
