Experience sharing program of public advocacy and strategies completed in Chitwan

Bharatpur on 11th-12th of July.

An experience sharing program on advocacy and strategies has been completed in Sauraha, Chitwan. The program was organized by the Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disabilities Nepal and supported by Lev Inclusion Denmark.

Participants in the program, which included parents of intellectual disabilities and individuals with intellectual disabilities, shared advocacy strategies and learnings they had adopted at their respective local levels.

Speaking at the event, Shiva Shrestha, President of the Intellectual Disability Association Nepal, said that if people with intellectual disabilities are provided with proper training and employment opportunities, their social participation will increase like other people.

Participants in the program said that future advocacy strategies should be determined to establish the issue of intellectual disability as an issue for everyone by launching a campaign through social media. They emphasized the need to jointly face the challenges by focusing on the issues of people with intellectual disabilities and continuously advocating with local governments.

The program was attended by 30 people, including 16 men and 14 women, from 6 districts where the program was implemented under the Kopila project of Lev Inclusion Denmark.

The program was facilitated by Raju Basnet, President of the Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disabilities. The districts where Lev Inclusion Denmark's Kopila project is being implemented are Kathmandu, Kaski, Lamjung, Myagdi, Saptari and Chitwan, according to the organizer.
