Experience sharing program of public advocacy and strategies completed in Chitwan

Bharatpur on July 11-12.

The experience sharing program of public advocacy and strategies has been completed in Sauraha of Chitwan. The program was organized by Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disabilities Nepal and with the support of Lev Inclusion Denmark.

Parents of intellectual disabilities and people with intellectual disabilities participated in the program. The participants shared the public advocacy strategies and learnings adopted at their respective local levels.

Speaking at the event, Shiv Shrestha, president of the Intellectual Disability Association of Nepal, said that if people with intellectual disabilities have proper training and employment opportunities, social participation will increase like other people.

The participants in the program said that the future strategies of public advocacy should be decided in order to establish the issue of intellectual disability as an issue of everyone by running a campaign through social media. They emphasized on the need to jointly face the challenges of people with intellectual disabilities by continuously advocating before the local government.

30 people including 16 men and 14 women from 6 districts where the program was implemented under the budding project of Lev Inclusion Denmark participated in the program.

The program was facilitated by Raju Basnet, President of Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disabilities. According to the organizers, the districts where the Kopila project of Lev Inclusion Denmark is being implemented are Kathmandu, Kaski, Lamjung, Myagdi, Saptari and Chitwan.
