Coordination meeting to identify priority areas for disability-related capacity development at the federal level
On 2081 Magh 11, a coordination meeting was held at the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Government of Nepal, in collaboration with the Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disabilities, Nepal, and UNDP Nepal to identify priority areas for disability-related capacity development at the federal level.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Secretary Kamala Ghimire and Reshma Lamichhane from the Disability Promotion Branch on behalf of the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Government of Nepal, while expert members including Sudarshan Subedi, Shobha Karki, and Lhakpa Noru Sherpa participated on behalf of the National Steering Committee on Disability.
The meeting was facilitated by Dr. Birendra Raj Pokharel and Raju Basnet, President of the Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disabilities. The issues discussed included identifying areas of development needed for effective implementation of disability policies and programs at the federal level and encouraging collaboration with provincial and local levels to enhance the knowledge, skills, and advocacy capacity of the committee members, developing special training materials, and prioritizing disability rights in government plans, ensuring international standards such as CRPD/SDGs, ensuring coordination with MoWCSC and other relevant ministries for capacity development activities and policy dissemination, reviewing the current budget and supporting capacity development, advocacy, and infrastructure development for the Disability National Steering Committee/OPDs, and aligning upcoming budget programs.
The meeting was attended by a total of 14 people, expressing a shared commitment to enhance the capacity of the National Disability Steering Committee and advocate for the protection and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities at all levels of government.
