Assignment: Developing Case Studies of 10 Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (IDs) in Inclusive Employment

  1. Background

The Parent Federation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PFPID) Nepal works to ensure the rights and inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities. As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting economic empowerment and inclusive employment, PFPID Nepal has facilitated the placement of persons with intellectual disabilities in various employment sectors. To document and showcase the impact of these initiatives, PFPID Nepal seeks a consultant to develop detailed case studies of 10 persons with intellectual disabilities working in the districts of Myagdi, Pokhara, Chitwan, Saptari, and Kathmandu.

2. Objective

The objective of this assignment are:

  • To document and present comprehensive case studies that highlight the lives, challenges, achievements, and societal integration of persons with intellectual disabilities placed in employment by PFPID Nepal.
  • To capture the perspectives of their families, communities, and employers, demonstrating the broader impact of inclusive employment practices.

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will:

  • Interview 10 persons with intellectual disabilities placed in employment through PFPID Nepal, along with their families, neighbors, and employers.
  • Document detailed case studies that include:
  • Personal history and background of the individual.
  • Journey to employment, including education, training, and placement.
  • Role of family, parents, and guardians in their development and support.
  • Relationships with neighbors and the broader community.
  • Work performance, contributions, and testimonies from employers and colleagues.
  • Key challenges faced and strategies used to overcome them.
  • Achievements, aspirations, and future goals.
  • Ensure ethical, culturally sensitive, and inclusive practices throughout the process, respecting the dignity of all participants.

4. Deliverables

Draft Case Studies: Submission of 10 draft case studies for review.

Final Case Studies: Submission of revised case studies incorporating feedback.

Each case study should be supported with relevant high-quality photographs (obtained with consent).

5. Timeline

The assignment must be completed within December 15, 2024

6. Qualifications and Experience

The ideal consultant should possess:

  • Proven experience in case study writing, storytelling, or journalism, particularly related to disability or social inclusion.
  • Understanding of disability rights, inclusive employment, and community engagement.
  • Strong research and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in conducting interviews and fieldwork, particularly in diverse cultural settings.

9. Selection Criteria:

The selection process will consider: Relevance and quality of the technical proposal (30%) Qualifications and experience of the consultant (30%) Cost-effectiveness of the financial proposal (20%) Quality of submitted work samples (20%)

10. Payment Terms:

    Payments will be made in installments: 100% upon acceptance of the final deliverables.

    11. Ethical Considerations: The consultant must adhere to ethical guidelines, ensuring informed consent from all participants and maintaining confidentiality and respect for individuals’ dignity and privacy throughout the process.
