PFPID Nepal announces the call for Expression of Interest (EOI) from experienced and qualified experts to conduct a Training for the support persons supporting persons with intellectual disabilities to assist in employment.

Project Concept:

PFPID-Nepal (Parents Federation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities-Nepal) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting the rights and inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities in Nepal. As part of its initiatives, PFPID-Nepal is working to enhance job placement opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities through targeted training and support.

For human growth and development, various indices such as health, education, and employment are crucial. According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Human Development Reports, these include achieving a long and healthy life, gaining knowledge, and attaining a decent standard of living. Individuals with intellectual disabilities have the right to pursue development in these areas.

            However, due to inadequate knowledge and support for specialized care and opportunities, they often encounter challenges in these areas. Research was conducted on identifying viable job opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The findings, drawn from stakeholders including individuals with intellectual disabilities, their parents, potential employers, and current employers, identified several feasible job roles.

Based on these findings, PFPID-Nepal developed a manual outlining suitable job opportunities and training modules in five trades for individuals with intellectual disabilities. While PFPID-Nepal has successfully placed many individuals with intellectual disabilities in employment across Nepal, support persons assisting them have not received formal training.

Scope of the work

The consultant is expected to:

  • Develop a comprehensive training program tailored to the needs of support persons assisting with persons with intellectual disabilities.
  • Cover key topics such as understanding intellectual disabilities, effective communication strategies, job readiness skills development, workplace accommodations, and disability rights.
  • Include practical exercises and role-playing scenarios to enhance learning and application of knowledge.
  • Guide fostering partnerships with employers, advocating for inclusive hiring practices, and creating supportive work environments.
  • Offer strategies for ongoing support and follow-up to maintain employment success and

Deliverables:

  • Detailed training curriculum outlining session objectives, content, and methodologies.
  • Training materials, including presentations, handouts, and resources for participants.
  • Pre- and post-training assessments to measure knowledge acquisition and training effectiveness.
  • Report summarizing training outcomes, participant feedback, and recommendations for further support.

Qualification and Experiences:

  • Advanced university degree atleast (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences.
  • Demonstrated expertise in disability inclusion, particularly in job placement and support for persons with intellectual disabilities.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs for diverse audiences, including NGOs and disability service providers.
  • Strong understanding of local context and challenges related to disability rights and employment in Nepal.

Logistics and Support:

PFPID-Nepal will provide logistical support, including venue arrangements, necessary equipment, and administrative assistance. Access to relevant organizational resources and expertise to facilitate effective training delivery.

Payment and Schedule:

The consultant will be paid in one installment (i.e. 100%) after the completion of training/assignment by PFPID Team.

Reporting:

The consultant will work with the supervision of the project manager. During the span of the assignment, the consultant will work in close coordination with PFPID project staff and will provide updates on progress to the project manager. Submit a final report detailing the training process, outcomes, participant achievements, and recommendations for sustaining and scaling up training efforts.

Approval and Coordination:

All training activities and deliverables are subject to approval by PFPID-Nepal’s designated authority. Coordination with PFPID-Nepal staff for seamless implementation and alignment with organizational objectives.
